The Local - Newport City Radio
“The Local” is the brainchild of Matt Sommers, a Graphic Designer from Newport, who felt that local talent needed a way of promoting themselves, in a low pressure and fun way.
Ably assisted by Alex Shergold and Steve Williams, “The Local” invites bands and artists into the studio for interviews about themselves, influences, likes, dislikes and more often than not, the chance to play an acoustic set.
“The Local” is based around a pub setting, so there is the usual pub quiz, with the weekly guests taking on the studio team in a five question competition which usually ends up running to a tiebreaker.
The show is very relaxed, with music split between local talent and our Jukebox Classics, another part of the show that relates to the pub scene.
Another feature of the show is the “Track of the Month” where a track from one of the guest artists opens the show for that month
